A week after unveiling the new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones at MWC 2018 in Barcelona, Samsung has brought them to the Indian shores. Successor to last year’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, the new smartphones bring nifty improvements to the table, especially in the camera department. Both the new Galaxy smartphones will be available in Lilac Purple, Coral Blue, and Midnight Black color options.

Samsung Galaxy S9 specifications
The smartphone flaunts a 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display running at a resolution of 1440×2960 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Under the hood is an Exynos 9810 octa-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. A hybrid microSD card slot for further storage expansion up to 400GB is also available.
Samsung has always focused on the camera aspect of its flagship smartphones, and the same continues with the Galaxy S9 too. It comes with a 12-megapixel dual aperture camera lens, with f-stop between f/1.5 and f/2.4. Besides being the largest aperture on any smartphone yet, Samsung says that it will help in better low-light photography. And when clicking photos in bright outdoor conditions, the aperture switches to f/2.4. There is also support for super slow-motion video recording at 960fps, where the camera app can automatically detect the motion and add slow-motion effects.
For video calling and selfies, you get an 8-megapixel front camera of aperture f/1.7 with auto-focus. The smartphone comes with a 3,000mAh battery along with support for fast charging and wireless fast charging.
Samsung Galaxy S9+ specifications
The Galaxy S9+ flaunts a 6.2-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display running at a resolution of 1440×2960 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. At the heart of the smartphone runs an Exynos 9810 octa-core SoC paired with 6GB of RAM. A hybrid slot for expandable storage up to 400GB using a microSD card is also present.
While the Galaxy S8+ featured a single lens camera at the back, the biggest change in the Galaxy S9+ is that you get the dual camera module at the back. Here, one is a 12-megapixel sensor with dual aperture (ranging between f/1.5 to f/2.4) and wide-angle lens, the other is a 12-megapixel telephoto lens of aperture f/2.4. Both cameras work in tandem to add DSLR-like bokeh effects to your photos, or capture photos with 2x lossless zoom.
To keep things ticking the Galaxy S9+ is armed with a 3,500mAh battery along with support for fast charging and wireless fast charging. Connectivity options on both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ include dual-SIM card slots with 4G VoLTE, GPS, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB Type-C. Both smartphones also run Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box, with Samsung’s custom UI on top.
Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ features
Samsung has also added Apple iPhone X-like Animoji feature called AR Emoji that uses facial recognition technology to transform your expression into emojis. You can change hair color, and there are 18 other expressions to choose from. The new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ also come with stereo speakers tuned by AKG and Dolby ATMOS support with 360-degree stereo sound.
While Apple ditched the fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication, the Galaxy S9 duo come with fingerprint sensor, iris scanner and an advanced facial recognition technology. Both smartphones also come with a 3.5mm audio socket, IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, Samsung Pay with MST technology, and Gigabit LTE with support for Cat.18. You also get improved Bixby assistant, with support for ‘live translation’ in various Indian languages such as Hindi, Gujarati and Punjabi among others.
