According to a new market analysis report, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ have become the bestselling smartphones in the world, taking the spot from Apple iPhone X. This has happened thanks to rising sales in US, Canada, and Asia-Pacific regions. This is the first time it has happened since both flagships have been launched, as the iPhone X single handedly dominated the market in the last two quarters.
According to Counterpoint, the new Galaxy flagship smartphones have a market share of 2.6 percent each, while the iPhone X has been pushed down to 2.3 percent. On the other hand, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 are also not that far behind, with a market share of 2.3 and 2.2 percent respectively. It should also be noted that Apple is still dominating the charts by having five of its phones listed in the top-ten. The older iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 have also made cut.
This is also the first time, two of Xiaomi phones have made it to the top-ten list. Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A, and the Redmi 5 Plus/ Redmi Note 5 grab the sixth and eighth positions with 1.5 and 1.4 percent market share respectively. Xioami has seen a lot of growth recently in both the Chinese and the Indian market. It is currently the number one smartphone brand in India.

The data also points out that the top ten phones are spilt between premium phones and affordable ones. This is where Xiaomi and Apple make a difference, as they triumph in their respective price segments. However, Samsung does also seem to be making an impact. Who will lead the market share in the next few quarters is anybody’s guess. Both companies are getting ready to launch their flagship devices in the next few months.
