Samsung has been working on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones that are expected to be unveiled next month at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. We have come across a number of leaks, rumors and renders of the smartphones, hinting at the design, specifications and features. Now, yet another live photo of the Galaxy S9 has been leaked, hinting at significant design changes.
With the Galaxy S8 duo, Samsung redefined design of smartphones in 2017, and now looking at the Galaxy S9 leak, it seems the South Korean giant is all set to push the boundaries even further. The leaked photo was spotted on Reddit, and it shows the welcome screen of the smartphone that appears during the initial setup. If you look closely at the photo, the bottom bezel is visibly slimmer compared to the Galaxy S8.
Now, it remains to be seen if Samsung will be fitting a slightly larger display in that space, or will the slimmer bezel mean that the Galaxy S9 will be more compact. Based on other leaks, Samsung has also moved the fingerprint sensor below the camera module. Recently, Samsung also unveiled the Exynos 9810 SoC that will be powering the Galaxy S9 duo, and has detailed some of its features.
Built on 10nm process, the Exynos 9810 will be an octa-core SoC with maximum clock speed of 2.9GHz. Samsung claims that the single-core performance is twice as fast as the Exynos 8895 SoC that powered the Galaxy S8 duo and the Galaxy Note 8. Multi-core performance has also been boosted by 40 percent, the company said. The chipset will come with onboard AI, and support 3D facial recognition for biometric authentication to take on Apple iPhone X’s Face ID feature.
Under the hood, the Galaxy S9 is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage, whereas the Galaxy S9+ could come with 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage. A hybrid microSD card slot for further expansion is also likely to be in tow. In the photography department, sadly, the Galaxy S9 is expected to come with a single rear camera, whereas the ‘plus’ variant is expected to come with dual-camera setup with Live Focus for DSLR-like bokeh effects for your photos.
Other features such as a heart-rate sensor besides the camera module, wireless fast charging, water and dust resistance and USB Type C-port are expected on the Galaxy S9 duo. And while Google, HTC and Apple have done away with the 3.5mm audio socket, the new Galaxy smartphones are set to retain it. In the software department, both smartphones are likely to run Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.
