We could be close to the launch of the latest smartwatch from Samsung, after a Samsung wireless charger believed to be linked to the Samsung Gear S4 has received certification. The Samsung Galaxy S4 could even go by a different name, with Galaxy Watch being at the top of the list of possibilities. It isn’t clear when it will be launched, but we could expect the new smartwatch to come alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 in August.

A wireless charger with the model name EP-YO805 was recently certified by the Korean Radio Research Agency, according to a report by Phone Arena. The model number matches to a recent Samsung device with model number SM-R805, which is believed to be the Samsung Gear S4 smartwatch. Adding to the likelihood is the fact that the Samsung Gear S3 had a model number of SM-R760, while its charger was certified as EP-YO760.

The Samsung Gear S4 will be the latest smartwatch in the Gear series from the Korean company. Although its name suggests that it’s the successor the Gear S3 that was launched back in 2016, Samsung did launch the Gear Sport last year, and this is a successor to both of those smartwatches. Reports suggest that the Gear S4 could ditch Samsung’s Tizen OS and go with Google’s Wear OS instead.

No other information on the charger is available, but it will likely stick to the wireless inductive charging method of its predecessors. Wireless charging is still far too slow to be taken seriously enough for charging smartphones and tablets, but devices such as smartwatches have smaller batteries that won’t take too long to charge even wirelessly. Samsung’s next smartwatch will hope to make a dent in the dominance of Apple over the smartwatch industry.
