Filing patent applications is routine for big tech companies, and it’s different for Samsung. A recent report had revealed that the U.S Patent Office granted the company 180 patents, which reveal plans for a foldable phone and a transparent display.
It now appears that Samsung was granted a total of 187 patents, which includes design patents for a portable speaker and a possible smartwatch. Although the patents don’t reveal a lot of information, the diagrams do give us some insight on the products.
Starting with the Bluetooth speaker. It features a walkie-talkie like design, with only one speaker encased in its chassis. Right above the speaker grill are the volume controls and possibly the on/off button placed between them. From the looks of it, the speaker seems to carry a rugged design. It even has a small handle at the top to help carry it outdoors.
Watch: Samsung Gear Sport and Fit Pro – Hands On
The smartwatch patent doesn’t look too different compared to the Samsung Gear S3. However, the band does seem to carry a two-button setup, which is intriguing. Samsung hasn’t disclosed much information here, other that the fact that the device is enlisted as “Watch-type portable data terminal”. We’re not sure of what that means or how much the patent will influence Samsung’s wearables. At this point we can only speculate of what’s coming.
