Samsung Pay, the contactless mobile payment solution from the South Korean smartphone maker, has received a redesign, making it look nicer than before. The app already had a functional design, but the new version further streamlines all its features.

The updated design first spotted by Droid Life is part of version 2.8.18 and brings a new user interface with cleaner appearance. It also improves usability, a key feature especially considering that Samsung Pay is a mobile payment service. While the older version of Samsung Pay had all the main navigation buttons right in the middle below features image, the new version has moved key navigation menu to the bottom navigation bar.

The new version of Samsung Pay seems to be inspired by many other redesigned Google apps, which has navigation menus at the bottom. The home page seems redesigned with a lighter hue that shows all the latest promotions while user’s saved cards in the wallet and Samsung Rewards are displayed below. The bottom navigation bar shows options like wallet, rewards, store and deals.

The update should be available on Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, S6 edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy A7 (2017), Galaxy A5 (2017), Galaxy A5 (2016), Galaxy A7 (2016) and newer models like Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy Note 8. We tried updating our Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8, but the update doesn’t seem to have arrived in India yet.

Samsung Pay is a mobile payment system that rivals Apple Pay and can be used instead of cards at point-of-sale locations around the world. The system relies on NFC to emulate the saved card but also supports MST, which is accepted at all payment terminals.

Unlike Apple Pay, Samsung Pay works in India and it recently gained support for bill payments in the country. The service works with credit or debit card from leading banks including Axis Bank, HDFC, ICICI, SBI or Standard Chartered. It also supports American Express and Citibank credit cards. Additionally, Samsung Pay also integrates Paytm and UPI making it a truly digital payment system.
