Samsung Redwood and Melius to be the first two Tizen devices to launch later this year: Report

Back in February, if you remember, we had reported about Samsung’s plans to phase out its Bada OS and launch devices running on the open-sourced Tizen, though no information was available on the devices itself. Now, Greek website has stumbled upon a document that reveals the names of these devices as being the Samsung GT-I8805 Redwood and the GT-I8800 Melius.

The PDF document meant for developers for the Samsung Tizen store talks of the Samsung Redwood as being a high-end device that will support 4G LTE, while the Samsung Melius is a mid-range device that will support 3G. Both the devices are said to be running on Tizen 2.1 Magnolia OS and slated for a release around August or September.

A separate report on Bloomberg has published a quote from Samsung’s Lee Young Hee’s interview in Seoul where he said, “The Tizen phone will be out in August or September, and this will be in the high-end category. The device will be the best product equipped with the best specifications,” he added.
