In the world of smartphones dominated by Android and iOS platforms, Samsung has been pushing its own Tizen operating system over the past three years. So far, Samsung has released three smartphones running on the Tizen OS, all of them priced under Rs 10,000. Now, the Korean technology giant has unveiled the Z4 that runs on the latest Tizen OS 3.0.

Samsung’s Tizen OS is already more popular as a wearable platform compared to Google’s Android Wear and Apple’s WatchOS. According to a recent report from Strategy Analytics, Tizen OS has overall wearable market share of 19 percent, compared to that of 18 percent of Android Wear. Now, while Tizen OS may not be able to capture the Android smartphone market, Samsung is trying everything to target the affordable segment under Rs 10,000 price bracket. The main target audience here is the first-time smartphone buyers.

Commenting on the announcement, Samsung’s President of Mobile Communications Business, DJ Koh, said, “We’re dedicated to providing our customers with devices that offer smarter mobile interactions. The Samsung Z4 brings a simplified mobile experience to first-time smartphone users and represents our ongoing commitment to expanding the Tizen ecosystem.” ALSO READ: Samsung’s Tizen is now more popular than Android Wear, Apple WatchOS still dominates the market
