Karbonn Mobiles will be releasing its second-generation Android One handset in Q1 2015, Shashin Devsare, Executive Director of Karbonn Mobiles told BGR India. He was speaking at the Dream 500 Million Smartphones event in New Delhi. “Expect new Android One smartphone in 2015 first quarter,” he said. “We have had an excellent response on Android One devices. We believe that Android One will mature over time. Our partnership for Android One is going to be long term,” he added.
Google announced Android One project at its developer conference I/O earlier this year in June. It’s an initiative by the Android maker wherein it provides smartphone manufacturers with a framework that governs the kind of specifications that are to be used in them. With Android One, Google also intends to bring a consistent experience across affordable handsets, with pure Android experience and faster updates. The company had partnered with Micromax, Karbonn Mobiles and Spice for the first generation of Android One-powered handsets.
According to a report from earlier this year, Intex, and several more OEMs will be participating for the second Android One project. Apart from the OEM, the second-generation Android One smartphones are likely to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.
