Microsoft has added a new feature to its VoIP-based chat platform Skype in the form of “add-ins”. These add-ins will function similar to how extensions work on web browsers to add the functionality of the app and what users can do with the app in this case. Microsoft took to its official blog to make the announcement of this new feature along with instructions on how to get started. If you are still using Skype for all your video calling duties and have not jumped ship to WhatsApp or Google Duo then it is fairly simple to get started.
To get started with the add-ins, you need to add the “+” symbol to “Add to chat” and then select the add-in. If you want to share the information of the add-in to a group chat then you need to take the arrow button located on the lower-right side of the add-in card and then select the “Send” button. Once you share the information, all the members of that particular group will be able to open the card and check out the details.

The company has launched a number of Add-ins to give users a sense of what is possible with the help of this new feature. The add-ins available for you to use at launch include News, Bing Movies, Bing Restaurants, Poll, Tenor, TripAdvisor, StubHub, YouTube, Vlipsy, Events, MojiLaLa, and others. Diving into the details about the apps, the News app allows you to check the latest events without installing a separate app or leaving the Skype app.
Bing Movies and Bing Restaurants allow you to plan an outing with your group including buying the movie ticket using Fandango and make a reservation through a call. The poll add-in is used so that you can conduct polls in a group about that movie or that restaurant that you are unable to decide on. Tenor add in is where you can search for GIFs to move beyond emojis for expressing what you are feeling. Users can use TripAdvisor, and StubHub for planning a getaway or concert over the weekend.
