July was an interesting month that saw a lot of important smartphone launches, both internationally and in India as well. We saw the likes of Xiaomi Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite, BlackBerry KEY2, Huawei Nova 3, Nova 3i and other smartphones getting launched in July. Now as we move to August, there are quite a few important launches lined up. Here’s a look at smartphones that are expected to debut in August.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Samsung is gearing up to launch the flagship Galaxy Note 9 in New York, and the event is set for August 9. A lot has already been leaked about the smartphone, and this time around, the battery, S Pen and cameras are expected to garner attention. The Galaxy Note 9 could come with a massive 4,000mAh battery for extended battery life. The S Pen is expected to gain Bluetooth support, the biggest upgrade in years, and it will likely help users remotely play/pause music, click photos.

Just like the Galaxy S9+, the Galaxy Note 9 is expected to come with dual cameras, with one sensor having dual aperture feature. Talking about RAM and storage, the base variant is likely to come with 128GB storage, and the top-end variant could come with 512GB of storage.

Flipkart has already started teasing the Galaxy Note 9, and it will likely be sold on the e-commerce platform. Rumors suggest that Samsung plans to bring the Galaxy Note 9 to India in under 15 days of the global launch, however, the company hasn’t confirmed anything yet.

BlackBerry Evolve, Evolve X

BlackBerry recently launched the Key2 in India, and it has already sent invites for another launch event on August 2. The Evolve and Evolve X smartphones that were recently leaked are expected to be launched at the event. Unlike the Key2 that comes with a touch and QWERTY keypad, the Evolve and Evolve X smartphones are likely to come with a full touchscreen display.

Sony Xperia XZ3

After introducing the Xperia XZ2 Premium at MWC 2018, Sony is now expected to unveil the Xperia XZ3 at IFA 2018 in Germany. The smartphone is expected to run Android P out-of-the-box, and it could come with a 5.7-inch display (2160×1080 pixels) and 18:9 aspect ratio.

The Xperia XZ3 could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. Sony also recently announced a 48-megapixel IMX586 CMOS sensor for smartphones, and there are chances we might see it on this smartphone. While no other details are available at the moment, we will have to wait until IFA 2018 kicks off to see what Sony has to announce.

Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro

Huawei has also scheduled an event for August 31 at IFA 2018, and it is highly anticipated to unveil the flagship Kirin 980 SoC, along with Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro smartphones. The highlight of the Kirin 980 SoC is expected to be the TSMC’s 7nm FinFET fabrication process, which could offer 20 percent performance improvements while saving 40 percent energy. The Mate 20 Pro is expected to flaunt a 6.9-inch OLED screen and triple camera setup at the back. However, other details aren’t known yet, and we will have to wait until more leaks pour in.

Moto Z3, Motorola One Power

Motorola is hosting an event in Chicago on August 2, and the company is expected to unveil the flagship Moto Z3 smartphone. It is likely to feature a 6-inch FHD+ display, dual cameras, and a modern design with slim bezels. The Moto Z3 is also expected to come with Moto Mods support with support for 5G. This is based on the recent leaks where a Moto Mod with 5G branding was spotted, and it likely to enable next gen tech with higher data speeds on the smartphone.

Alongside the Moto Z3, Motorola could also unveil the One Power smartphone, which is expected to be a part of the Android One program. It is also likely to be the first Moto smartphone to come with a notched display. Other rumored features include dual cameras at the back, and a front camera with LED flash.

While the above list is of smartphones that are yet to go official, Honor has scheduled an event in India on August 6 where it will be launching the Honor Play gaming smartphone. Xiaomi has also announced an event for August 8 where it will launch the Mi A2 smartphone in India.
