Snapchat today announced a new addition to its platform which allows you to share AR experiences with friends. The company is rolling out Snappables which are a form of interactive Lenses for AR experiences and games. Snappables have been built right into the Snapchat Lens Carousel and allow you to control them using touch, motion or facial expressions.
Similar to the AR filters, Snappables essentially puts your face on an AR character in a game or experience. So for instance, you can be a DJ or burst gum bubbles with virtual texts floating around you. Here’s how you can use Snappables on Snapchat.
To begin, ensure you are on the latest version of the app. The Snappables are located on the left side of the circular capture button. The new Snappables will appear in the carousel dynamically. Simply tap on the Lens icon and then follow the on-screen directions. Some Snappables require you to jump to move into a new AR experience.
You can activate the Snappable using your facial expressions or movements. You can also invite your friends to join you by sending them a Snap. Sharing a Snappables with friends will be particularly exciting if it is a game.
Snapchat says the new interactive Lenses will be rolled out to global users this week on both iOS and Android.
Snappables will begin rolling out to Snapchatters globally this week on iOS and Android. New Snappables will appear in the carousel dynamically, just like other Lenses today. Snapchat is promising that new Snappables will be added every week.
