Sony has announced that it will hold its IFA 2018 press conference at 1PM CET (or 5.30PM IST) on August 30. The Japanese consumer electronics giant announced its plan in an email, further confirming that new Xperia smartphones are coming.
At Mobile World Congress 2018 in February, Sony launched the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact smartphones. If the company sticks to its six month refresh cycle then we might see the launch of Xperia XZ3 and Xperia XZ3 Compact at the event on August 30. The Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact, despite being in the premium price segment lack features like dual rear camera setup.
Sony corrected that by releasing another smartphone in June called Xperia XZ2 Premium with dual rear camera setup. The leaks so far suggest that Sony is planning to launch the Xperia XZ3 smartphones with four cameras. The Xperia XZ3 and Xperia XZ3 Compact are rumored to feature dual camera setup at the front as well as rear. The leaks have suggested that Sony Xperia XZ3 won’t be much different from its predecessor in terms of design.
Among the leaks, the credible information seems to indicate that Xperia XZ3 and Xperia XZ3 Compact will feature a tall 18:9 display. Two Sony smartphones with model numbers H8416 and H8616 have appeared on benchmark platforms running Android P. There is a possibility that these two devices could be the first smartphones to launch with Android 9.0 out of the box.

A Geekbench listing indicates that Sony is working on a flagship device with Qualcomm’s as yet unannounced Snapdragon 855 chipset. The smartphone achieved a score of 3,033 in single-core test and 10,992 in the multi-core test along with 8GB of RAM. It is not immediately clear what Sony has in store but the launch of Xperia XZ3 and Xperia XZ3 Compact seems imminent. Alongside Xperia XZ3 and Xperia XZ3 Compact, Sony might also introduce other accessories and wearable devices.
