Sony announced three of its new smartphones – the Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact, and Xperia XA1 Plus at the ongoing IFA 2017 event in Berlin. Alongside, the company also revealed that the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact will be first of Sony smartphones to hit the market with the Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. For those wondering, if the current Sony smartphone users will be getting Android Oreo experience or not, Sony has revealed the list of devices that will be treated with the goodness of new Android OS.
According to Sony’s blog post, a select number of Xperia smartphones are due to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update. The list has smartphones ranging from mid-range to premium handsets and thus it can be said that Sony is treating its customer right with Android Oreo delight. Following are the Sony Xperia smartphones to get the OS upgrade – Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia X Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra, Xperia Touch and the newly announced Xperia XA1 Plus.
The list practically includes all of the Sony Xperia smartphones released in last one year. Android 8.0 Oreo features include consolidated settings menu, categorized notifications, picture-in-picture (PiP) mode, Notification Dots, Quick Actions, Google Assistant, AutoFill passwords, Instant Apps, and Google Play Protect among others. Sony has not made any revelations of a specific date as to when the software update will be rolled out. The company has outlined that the update roll out will be carried out in phases and thus the OTA update will reach to all the supported devices sooner or later depending on the market.
