After weeks of waiting, Sony’s Xperia U is now available in India. Online retailers Flipkart and Saholic are selling it for Rs 16,499. Infibeam, on the other hand, is still retailing it for Rs 17,399. Sony is yet to officially announce the Xperia U’s launch in India.

UPDATE: Infibeam has revised its price. Now it is retailing the Xperia U for Rs 16,499 and offering a cash back of Rs 500.

The Xperia U features a 3.5-inch 854×480 pixel display, a 5-megapixel camera, a 1GHz dual-core processor and 4GB of internal memory. Surprisingly, it does not feature a microSD card slot. It will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box though Sony says it will be updated to Android 4.0 ICS soon.

Sony is also expected to launch the Xperia Sola later this month, which will be priced around Rs 19,999. It sports a slightly larger 3.7-inch display and has 8GB of internal storage (up to 5GB accessible for use) with a microSD card slot. The rest of the features are similar to the Xperia U.
