Tata Docomo has announced the launch of a Rs 99 tariff plan for its prepaid subscribers. The new tariff plan from the mobile telecom brand of Tata Teleservices offers 1.4GB of daily data for a period of 28 days. The plan is valid across the country for Tata Docomo’s prepaid mobile subscribers for those using the network in Intra Circle Roaming with Airtel.
According to TelecomTalk, the plan offers a total of Rs 39.2GB of data for a period of 28 days, but it misses out on calling and SMS benefits. With this plan, Tata Docomo becomes the newest telecom service provider to offer data-only tariff plan. The report notes that the plan is not intended for commercial use, and data roaming is valid only on Tata Teleservices’ own sites.
When Tata Docomo users browse other websites, they will be charged as per the base tariff plan. Post the consumption of 1.4GB data during the day, customers will be charged 10 paise per MB. This new tariff plan competes with state-owned BSNL’s Data Tsunami pack priced at Rs 98. The pack offers 1.5GB of data on a daily basis.
The key difference between BSNL and Tata Docomo’s data-centric plan is the validity. BSNL’s Data Tsunami pack has a validity of only 26 days, which is two days less than that of Tata Docomo’s plan. BSNL also does not offer any voice calling or SMS benefits with this plan.

However, both BSNL and Tata Docomo fail to compete with Reliance Jio or Bharti Airtel, which offer plans priced under Rs 100. These plans, not only offer data benefits, but also provide voice calling and SMS benefits. Jio offers 2GB 4G data, unlimited outgoing calls, 300 SMS for 28 days with its Rs 98 tariff plan. Airtel, on the other hand, offers 2GB data for 28 days alongside unlimited local and national calls and 100 SMS per day with Rs 99 plan.
