The top three octa-core smartphones you can buy under Rs 25,000 in India

Yesterday Micromax launched the Canvas Knight A350, its first octa-core smartphone. This is by no means the only octa-core smartphone you can buy though. If you are in the market for a smartphone with a budget of Rs 25,000 and require an octa-core powered device, you can also choose from the recently launched WickedLeak Wammy Passion X and the Intex Aqua Octa. We pit all the three devices against each other to find which device you should put your money on.

  1. Display – The Canvas Knight and the Wammy Passion both flaunt 5-inch 1080p displays with a pixel density of 443ppi, so there is no differentiating between the two. The Aqua Octa, on the other hand, flaunts a bigger 6-inch display, albeit has to make do with a 720p resolution.
  2. Hardware – All three devices are powered by MediaTek’s MT6592 true octa-core processors, but the Canvas Knight edges ahead with a clock speed of 2GHz. All the three processors are paired with 2GB of RAM.
  3. Cameras – While the Wammy Passion X and the Aqua Octa feature a combination of 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel cameras, the Canvas Knight is the real winner with its 16-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera. The latter’s rear camera also has OmniVision CameraChip sensor and M8 Largan Lens, which is the same camera module found on the Gionee Elife E7. Additionally, this camera also supports voice commands, so in order to click a picture quickly you can simple say “Cheese” or “Capture.”
  4. Storage – The Wammy Passion X and the Aqua Octa both feature 16GB of internal storage that can be further expanded using a microSD card. Though the Canvas Knight offers 32GB of internal storage, the absence of a microSD card slot is a serious disadvantage.
  5. Android OS and Battery – All the three devices run on Android Jelly Bean so there is little to differentiate between the three. As far as the battery is concerned, the Wammy Passion X has the biggest battery (2,500mAh) followed by the Canvas Knight (2,350mAh) and the Aqua Octa (2,300mAh).
  6. Extras – The Wammy Passion X is the only device among the three to boast water repellent capabilities. WickedLeak has used a nano coating on the inside as well as outside, which in the words of the company, makes it “Super Hydrophobic.” This protection allows the device to survive for 30 minutes under any kind of liquid without damaging the device.

All the three devices then are similarly priced and boast similar specifications. The Micromax Canvas Knight and the Intex Aqua Octa are lighter on the pockets with a price tag less than Rs 20,000. The former also has the best camera of the three. But the WickedLeak Wammy Passion X is what provides the most value for money. For about Rs 2,000 more you will get the same specifications as well as water repellent capabilities, which is a must-have feature on any phone these days.
