Last week, Twitter revealed the top trending tweets across the globe in 2013. Now the micro blogging platform has turned its focus to India, and revealed which tweets and people trended in the country this past year.

In India, not surprisingly, Bollywood and Cricket hogged all the limelight. Bollywood related tweets included Chennai Express breaking all the Box Office records, Karan Johar announcing season 3 of Koffee with Karan, #WeLoveSRK and #Akshay2000Crore among others.

In Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar’s thank you tweet to his fans was retweeted more than 17,000 times and favorited more than 12,000 times. Other cricketing events and personalities that made the top charts were #IPL, #IndvsAus, Dale Steyn and Shikhar Dhawan among others.

When it comes to events and breaking news, Twitter was where word spread like wildfire and discussions raged for days. Hashtags related to events that trended in the country included #Conclave13, #RailBudget and Happy Ganesh Chaturti among others, while news stories that trended were #AfzalGuru, #MumbaiGangRape, #Tejpal and Cyclone Phailin among others.
Twitter also mentions some of the eminent personalities that joined the platform to share their views and personal opinions. The list includes sports personalities like Saina Nehwal (@NSaina) and Sourav Ganguly (@SouravGanguly), with the latter having to create a new account as his older account was hacked, Bollywood celebrities like Anil Kapoor (@AnilKapoor) and Sridevi (@SrideviBKapoor) and the Indian Army (@adgpi).
