French brand Thomson has marked its return to the Indian TV market with three new TVs, alongside Indian manufacturing partner Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL). The three TV options are the 43-inch 4K Smart TV priced at Rs 27,999, 40-inch full-HD Smart TV at Rs 19,999 and 32-inch HD Smart TV at Rs 13,499. The TVs are set to go on sale today through exclusive online retail partner Flipkart at 12 noon, through the first flash sale. Flipkart is also offering EMI options on purchase of the TVs, along with 5% off if you complete the purchase with an Axis Bank credit card. Free installation and wall mounting is being offered with all three TVs.

The new Thomson smart TVs will take on other online-first TV makers such as Xiaomi and Vu, which also offer competitively priced smart TVs through an online-first sale model. Thomson does have the strength of its brand, which has been in the TV business for many years. The flagship 43-inch TV runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and comes the APKs of Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Netflix pre-installed. You can additionally download and install other apps as well on the TV.

The pricing strategy is aimed squarely at offering an alternative to the Xiaomi Mi TV 4 range, which was launched earlier this year. While initially only the flagship Mi TV 4 was launched in India, the company subsequently brought two more affordable variants of the Mi TV 4A to India. The Thomson range competes directly with Xiaomi on pricing, and is made in India by SPPL.

The Thomson TV sale on Flipkart is part of the Flipkart TV Days promotion being run on the site from 13-15 April. The sale will remain on while stocks last, although we do expect more sales to be held for the Thomson TV range going forward.
