Social media platform Twitter has announced the launch of a number of new features to its native web version, Twitter Lite, and its Windows app. The company took to its official Twitter account to announce the new features. According to the announcement tweets, the company is adding ‘Night Mode’, ‘Real-time updates’ to the reply, retweet and like counters on the tweets, and an updated compose box for a new tweet.
This move may not seem much on a surface as these things are something that users have come to expect from any app from major social media players. However, it is a big deal for Twitter users who don’t want to use the full version of the app and are only comfortable using other official alternatives provided by Twitter in place of its main app as pointed by Engadget. The other reason is that users may be increasingly pushed to using its main mobile app or other versions including the web version, Lite app, and the Windows app.

The reason for this push is likely to be the new developer tools and APIs that the company is pushing to all its third-party developers. This is likely to break some features in the third party Twitter app of your choice. This announcement comes just hours after the company killed its official app for Android TV, Xbox and Roku.
This is not the first time that the company has killed its official apps for other platforms as previously, it shut down its official desktop app for Mac. For all the Apple TV users, the official Twitter app is still available though we are not sure for how long that app is secure.
