Twitter turns 7, claims 200 million active users send 400 million tweets daily

On March 21, 2006, Jack Dorsey sent out the first tweet – “Just setting up my Twttr” – that set up a new medium to communicate. Twitter today turned seven and has become a not just a medium for friends and family to catch up, but has sparked revolutions in the Middle East, become a source for breaking news where regular people play the role of gathering news (remember the guy who accidentally live-tweeted the air raid on Osama bin Laden?) and a common room where everyone just hangs out to share thoughts.

Twitter has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Today Twitter revealed it has crossed 200 million active users that send out over 400 million tweets from across the world (and some even from the space!). Here’s wishing Twitter a very happy seventh birthday!
