Ride-hailing and personal transportation service Uber has just announced that it has completed 10 billion rides across the world. The company shared details about this milestone in an announcement post while giving us a recap of how the company came into existence. The thing to note here is that the company was able to achieve this milestone in about 8 years after the launch of the company. The reason for this is because Uber started back in 2010 with the aim to provide users a simple service, the ability to ride from point A to point B with a push of a button on their smartphone.

The company also pointed towards a number of stories about users finding jobs, love of their life, along with a select few cases of childbirth during the ride on the way to hospitals. According to the announcement, the company reached the milestone on June 10, 2018, when 173 trips and deliveries started at the same time at 10:12 PM GMT. Uber added that these 173 trips happened in 21 countries spread across five continents. Some of the notable cities where these 173 trips took place include Montreal, Miami, and Mexico City. The company stated that Latin America was the top spot for ‘most simultaneous trips on a continent’.

Talking about deliveries, the company stated that the orders included orders for McDonald’s, burgers, tacos, noodles, and sushi. The shortest delivery of the 173 trips included half a mile trip while the longest trip was one in Denver where a passenger took a 41-mile ride to the airport.

For the perspective of the rate of how Uber is growing, five riders out of the 173 were on their first Uber rides. The company thanked its users for their support.

This announcement comes right after a number of reports revealed the problematic history of work culture at the company including cases of sexual harassment and gender bias.
