Telecom operator Uninor which was affected by the 2G scam that rocked the nation has now stopped its operation in Mumbai following a Supreme Court order. Around 18 lakh customers in the Mumbai region have been affected by this order.
The Court ordered all the operators that didn’t win the auction for spectrums, to shut down their services with immediate effect. “We have pursued every alternative possible to continue our operations in Mumbai until the new auction takes place. Unfortunately, we have no choice now but to follow the Court’s order and close down our network immediately,” said Sigve Brekke, Managing Director of Uninor in a statement.
The customers in the other regions like Goa, Gujarat, UP East, UP West, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and other parts of Maharashtra won’t be affected since the telecom operator already has spectrums to operate in those areas. Uninor is also working towards signing a deal with other carriers to provide network connectivity when Uninor users from these regions travel to Mumbai.
