Union Budget 2014: FDI in ecommerce to be allowed through automatic route says Arun Jaitley

In his Union Budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has announced that FDI will be allowed through automatic route in ecommerce. Manufacturers will be able to sell products on e-commerce platforms without any additional approvals. This will be welcomed by international players like Amazon, who are looking at entering the Indian market.

Flipkart recently raised $210 million and had raised close to $540 million earlier. Snapdeal too raised $100 million in May this year in its second round of funding. It will also be interesting to see how it benefits international players like Amazon to launch in India. Presently, Amazon is a marketplace.
