Union Budget 2014: TVs and PCs set to get cheaper

At the ongoing Union Budget 2014 speech, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced that consumer goods like TVs and personal computers are set to get cheaper.

Jaitley mentioned that basic custom duties on LCD and LED panels below 19-inches have been removed. In general personal computers and flat-screen TVs will be cheaper than before. He also mentioned that for those who can’t afford flat-screen LCD and LED TVs, CRT TVs too have been made cheaper.

Jaitley also increased basic custom duty on telecom products to 10 percent in order to encourage local manufacturing. It isn’t clear at the moment whether it affects smartphones as well or just for telecom network infrastructure.
