Instagram is hosting awards to recognize its most engaging community members in India. A first in the country, Indian Instagram community is home to some of the most popular entertainment and sports accounts that attract fans worldwide. One of the most recent examples is Malayalam actress Priya Prakash Varrier.
As for the recognition, winning the award of the ‘Most Engaged Account’ is Indian Cricket Team Captain, Virat Kohli, who has 19.8 million followers as of March 2018. Deepika Padukone emerged as the ‘Most Followed Account’ with 22.4 million followers, followed by Priyanka Chopra with 22 million followers, and Alia Bhatt with 20.8 million followers.
The award for ‘Emerging Account’ was bagged by Ishaan Khatter.
Further, in recognition of reaching the 20 million followers milestone, Instagram also gave out a plaque to Alia Bhatt and Shraddha Kapoor.
The year 2017 in itself was quite eventful and engaging, which had people hook on to Instagram more incessantly than ever. There was Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s wedding, also known as the Virushka wedding. Priyanka Chopra also went viral on Instagram with her Live with actor Ranveer Singh and Hollywood’s Kate Bosworth struck more fandom on International Women’s Day. The growing use of features and content formats offered on Instagram like Stories, Live, Boomerangs, and Superzoom, is another reason for the growing attraction and engagement.
