It’s been months since Google released the source code for Android 8.0 Oreo update, but only a handful of smartphone manufacturers have treated their devices with the latest update. Now, Vivo on its Chinese forums page, has announced a list of smartphones that will be updated with the FunTouch OS based on Android Oreo update.
There are a total of seven Vivo smartphones that will be updated to the latest Android OS. And while the Chinese smartphone maker did not mention anything about the time frame, it did mention that the rollout will begin sometime in April 2018. The Vivo X20 will be the first one to get the update, that too in beta.
Other Vivo smartphones that will be treated with the update include the X20 Plus, X9s, X9s Plus, Xplay6, X9 and X9 Plus. The upcoming FunTouch OS version is likely to include most features of Android 8.0 Oreo, which includes new notification panel, redesigned settings menu, adaptive icons and picture-in-picture mode among others. It is also expected to bring new emojis, notification dots, faster boot times, and autofill for passwords.
However, there is no word on whether the updated OS will be released globally. Sadly, Vivo did not mention anything about the smartphones sold in India, which includes Vivo V7, V7+, V5, V5s, V5 Plus, and the affordable Y-series. The company also has poor track record when it comes to updating its smartphones to the latest OS, and there are chances wherein these smartphones may be stuck on Android Nougat, or whatever version they are currently running on.
