Mondays are usually dull everywhere, and it isn’t really exciting either in the world of technology. Although, the start of the week did have an interesting start with stories from different aspects of software and both hardware. OnePlus 3 and 3T users will be pleased to know that Android Oreo has started rolling out. The only smartphone launch that took place was the Vivo V7, in India. Apple was also rumored to use Intel’s 5G modem in future iPhones.
Xiaomi’s upcoming smartphone, the Redmi Note 5 was listed online yet again. iOS 11.2 which is in beta right now has a feature discovered for the iPhone X and iPhone 8 series. Here’s a look at today’s important news.
OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T Android Oreo update
Ahead of the OnePlus 5 and even the OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 3 and 3T users started receiving Android Oreo update today. The update will be available through the latest OxygenOS 5.0 update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. The upgrade brings access to features like notification dots, picture-in-picture, Google’s Autofill API, and smart text selection. OnePlus is also releasing a new folder design within its launcher, a new option to upload photos instantly clicked, among others.
Vivo V7 launch in India
After having launched in Indonesia, Vivo launched the V7 smartphone in India today. Vivo V7 is priced at Rs 18,990 and will go on sale starting November 25 exclusively via Flipkart and offline stores. A slightly toned down version of the Vivo V7+, the Vivo V7 features a 5.7-inch HD display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 4GB RAM and 32GB storage, and 3,000mAh battery. The smartphone runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with Funtouch OS 3.2. For photography, the Vivo V7 sports a 16-megapixel rear camera, and a 24-megapixel front camera.
Apple to use Intel 5G modem on future iPhones
Apple is rumored to be working with Intel to integrate 5G modems into its future iPhones. It is reported that Intel already has thousands of engineers working on its 5G chipset. However, seeing a 5G iPhone will definitely take time as Intel is expected to ship its modem later between 2019 and 2020. While Apple is known to be in talks with Qualcomm as well, it is reported that the talks are ‘limited’ as of now. Apple and Qualcomm are also tied in a legal feud over royalty fees.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 online listing
The rumor mill is buzzing with the details of Xiaomi’s next smartphone, the Redmi Note 5. The smartphone was recently spotted on JD.com, and was listed on Oppomart today. According to the listing, the Redmi Note 5 features a 5.99-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 625 SoC, and 4,000mAh battery. It could be fueled by a 4,000mAh battery, and will run on Android 7.1 Nougat-based MIUI 9. Rumors suggest that the Redmi Note 5’s display will have 18:9 aspect ratio. These sightings also appear in the midst of Xiaomi India teasing a new launch. Nothing has been confirmed as yet.
iOS 11.2 beta for iPhone X, iPhone 8
Developers are currently digging into the iOS 11.2 beta and discovering new features. The latest includes a possible faster wireless charging support for the iPhone X and iPhone 8. The report states that in iOS 11.2 beta, 7.5W wireless charging is available for the iPhone X and iPhone 8. At present, both the iPhones support the slowest Qi charging speed of 5W. This report is also in line with Apple’s promise of 7.5W wireless charging in the future. Apple is expected to release the stable iOS 11.2 in December.
Also worth mentioning is the launch of the Mi A1 Rose Gold variant in India. Xiaomi’s Mi A1 in Rose Gold will go on sale tomorrow at 12:00 noon via Flipkart. The smartphone is priced at Rs 14,999. There was another interesting launch today which was a powerbank by the Elon Musk-owned Tesla. Priced at $45 (approximately Rs 3,000), the Tesla powerbank comes with micro USB and Apple’s Lightning USB cords integrated.
