Just yesterday, Oppo officially unveiled two new smartphones in China called R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition. A day later, Vivo also announced two new smartphones in the country called X21 and X21 UD. The difference between the two Vivo smartphones is that that X21 comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back, whereas the X21 UD comes with under display sensor. The Oppo R15 closely competes with the Vivo X21. We compared both smartphones based on their price, specifications and features, and here’s how they fare.
Price and availability
The Oppo R15 is priced at RMB 2,999 (approximately Rs 30,650). The Vivo X21, on the other hand, will be available in two variants – 64GB storage variant priced at RMB 2,898 (Rs 29,900 approximately), and 128GB model is priced at RMB 3,198 (Rs 33,000 approximately). While the Oppo smartphone will go on sale starting March 31, the Vivo smartphone will be available starting March 24 in China.
Display, chipset, RAM and storage
Oppo’s R15 comes with a 6.28-inch OLED display running at FHD+ (2280×1080 pixels) resolution and an aspect ratio of 19:9. Vivo’s X21 also flaunts a 6.28-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED display running at a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels. The only difference between both phones is the OLED vs AMOLED display. Both smartphones also come with an iPhone X like notch above the display.
Under the hood, the Oppo R15 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.0GHz paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. The Vivo X21, on the other hand, is powered by a Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC paired with Adreno 512 GPU, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB or 128GB onboard storage options. Both smartphones also come with a hybrid SIM card slot, allowing you to add a microSD card for further storage expansion.
In the photography department, both smartphones come with dual camera setup at the back. The Vivo X21 comes with a 12-megapixel primary sensor of f/1.8 aperture supplemented with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor of aperture f/2.4. Up front, the smartphone comes with a 12-megapixel sensor of f/2.0 for selfies and video calling.
The Oppo R15, on the other hand, comes with a 16-megapixel primary camera of aperture f/1.7 supplemented with a secondary 5-megapixel sensor of aperture f/2.2. With Oppo focusing on the selfie-centric audience, the R15 comes with a 20-megapixel front camera of aperture f/1.0 for selfies and video calling.
Battery, connectivity and OS
The Vivo X21 comes with a 3,200mAh battery with fast charging feature, whereas the Oppo R15 comes with a slightly larger 3,450mAh battery, and also supports fast charging technology. In terms of connectivity, you get dual SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE and GPS connectivity options on both smartphones. While the Vivo smartphone comes with Bluetooth 5.0, thanks to Snapdragon 660 SoC, the Oppo smartphone gets the older Bluetooth 4.2.
In the software department, both smartphones run on Android 8.0 Oreo update with Vivo smartphone featuring custom FunTouch OS on top, whereas the Oppo smartphone featuring ColorOS on top.
