With our use of internet increasing, it’s difficult to sometimes keep a track of how much data we use in a day. This is more important for people who use prepaid data packs, as they operate on a daily FUP limit. For these customers, most telecos send out SMS alerts to notify them about their data usage, but these could easily be missed under the barrage of notifications from other apps. Now however, Vodafone has started a new initiative, where prepaid users will be getting a much more prominent data usage alert, right at the end of their FUP.
According to Telecomtalk, when browsing the internet after the completion of the daily FUP limit, customers will be redirected to a new Vodafone page, which displays “Data Usage Alert”. Underneath that, there is also a message, which suggests ways to get additional data for the day. You can either SMS “Start” to use data at the standard rates or type in “*444#” to subscribe another plan.
With Vodafone giving instant data alert messages, we’re not sure if other telecos like Airtel, Idea Cellular or Reliance Jio will also be joining the bandwagon. However, it does seem like a good move, considering the fact that users don’t have to open any applications to know about their daily data usage.

The company has launched the services in time for the annual Chardham Yatra which draws hundreds of pilgrims from various parts of the country.
