Drones have been the coolest gadget to have launched in the past few years but they have use beyond aerial photography. If you never believed that then this Indian engineer will make think you think otherwise.
According to NDTV, an engineeer in New Delhi named Milind Raj used a drone to save a puppy. Raj discovered a puppy that had stuck in a boddy drain while he was out for a morning walk. Instead of ignoring the whimpering sound made by the puppy, Raj decided to rescue it. Raj used a modified drone with a giant claw to recue the puppy from the drain, which locals say was filthy.
“It was not possible for a human to rescue the puppy without endangering their own life,” Raj told NDTV.
Raj says he set out to construct a drone capable of rescuing the puppy. He says building the right tools was a challenging task but he managed to strap a robotic arm with a claw to a six-rotor drone. The drone as well as the robotic arm were custom made by Raj at his lab located in Lucknow. Raj, who has an extensive experience in AI and robotics, says “The AI helped me monitor the animal’s heart rate. If the grip was too tight, the pup would suffocate.”
In the past, engineers and technologists have used drones to deliver blood samples in areas where mobile blood banks cannot reach. It has also been used to deliver vaccines in under-developed areas. However, there cannot be anything as cute as a drone saving a puppy.
Milind Raj uploaded a video of the drone saving the pup on his YouTube channel on April 27. The video shows Raj maneuvering the drone to save the pup and he says the pup vomited plastic after being released.
