App developer Tencent, which created the WeChat app, has announced the latest version of the free chat app. Among all the upgrades, this version also brings a walkie-talkie live chat feature that allows a group to have instant voice conversations with just one touch.

Another feature included in the new version is the support for QR codes that generates a unique code for every group, which is to be used to join that group. This is something similar to BBM, where users get a QR code for their BlackBerry Pin, which other users can scan to add them. Other new features included are:

  • Group Chat.
  • QR code sharing.
  • Chat history backup and retrieve.

The WeChat app can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
