WhatsApp is working on a new feature that is very likely to save its users from a number of embarrassing scenarios. According to the latest beta version for Android, version 2.18.159, the company is working on a new feature called “Media visibility”. WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp has added a new toggle giving its users the option to choose between hiding or showing the shared media in their phone gallery outside WhatsApp. This new toggle is present in the “Data and storage usage” menu in the Settings option.

This new feature is likely to be a game changer for people who don’t want their friends or family to see images or videos that their contact list has shared with them through WhatsApp. The report also added that it may not work in this version and users will have to wait for the next beta version of the app. Media Visibility is not the only change in the new version as WhatsApp rolled out new contact shortcuts for creating a new group or add a new contact.

This new update and features come days after it was revealed that a server-side bug from WhatsApp allowed contacts that you have blocked in past to be able to send you messages, see your display image and status.

The company has acknowledged the bug, and stated that it was working on a fix for the issue. For the people who are still facing that issue, some users have suggested a workaround by unblocking and blocking the contacts again.
