Last week, WhatsApp had things abuzz with the launch of its WhatsApp Business app. Essentially, meant to provide a dedicated platform to small businesses and its customers, the app was however, is only available to download in Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, the UK and the US, as of yet. WhatsApp had said that it will be rolled out around the world in the coming weeks. However, according to a recent statement we received from WhatsApp, we could expect the app’s rollout in India as soon as this week.
“WhatsApp Business was made available starting 18 Jan and free to download on Google Play in Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, the UK and the US. This app will be rolling out around the world (including India) in the coming weeks. Considering it is a phased out roll-out, so we can say that starting this week, we can expect the app to reach India,” a WhatsApp spokesperson said.
WhatsApp For Business was first launched in 2017, and with the help of the platform, WhatsApp wants to give businesses more control to businesses as how to how they communicate with their customers. The app will allow businesses to create profiles with useful information such as a business description, email or store addresses, and website.
The app will also have features like quick replies, greeting messages when a user interacts with a business for the first time, and away messages when the business is offline. The app also provides messaging statistics like the number of messages read to see what’s working.
WhatsApp Business will also support WhatsApp Web. Also, as WhatsApp writes in its blog, “Over time, some businesses will have Confirmed Accounts once it’s been confirmed that the account phone number matches the business phone number”.
