WhatsApp crosses 50 million monthly active users in India, ties up with Airtel for special data plans

WhatsApp has crossed 50 million monthly active users in India. Just last fortnight WhatsApp had crossed 48 million monthly active users in the country, which is also its largest country by the number of monthly active users. WhatsApp has also tied up with Airtel to provide special WhatsApp only data packs.

Depending on the circle, the plan costs between Rs 36 and Rs 49 and offer 200MB of WhatsApp only data usage. Airtel subscribers can text ‘Whatsapp’ to 121 to activate the plan.

This is not the first carrier tieup WhatsApp has done in India. It already provides similar plans with Tata Docomo, RCom and Uninor.

WhatsApp now has over half-a-billion monthly active users globally and is being acquired by Facebook in a staggering $19 billion deal. The mobile messaging service is also gearing up to launch voice calling service to take on other competing services that provide similar features.

Here’s the tariff card for WhatsApp plan on Airtel.

Whatsapp keeps forcing to update the software very often,
which I found irritating. I found the app Photo4Tune far better in terms of
keeping in touch with friends, photo sharing functions & event creation

I am totally agree with Vivek. I have recently dowloaded Photo4tune. Its really Cool and no subscription fee

Try Photo4tune; it’s an amazing chat app for android and can be
downloaded from Play Store. Download it from Google Playstore. Chat apps
and Video chat apps have made it possible for people like me who stay
far away from friends and family!
