After WhatsApp recently added a new Change Number feature on Android beta, the app has now been updated for iOS users to bring a few changes. The recent update brings the app to the version 2.18.40 on iOS, which works for all devices running iOS 7.0 and later.

After the update, users will now be able to view the recent status updates in a new WhatsApp widget on iPhone’s Today View section. The update also enhances the voice messaging feature on the app, wherein you will now continue to play your voice messages even if you switch to another app or turn your screen off.

In addition to these changes in the new update, a recent report from WABetaInfo also claims that the iOS app will soon also get support for new features such as dark mode, Touch ID support, polls in groups, and the ability to add as many as 4,096 participants in a group. Besides iOS, these features are also expected to rollout to Android, and Windows Phone devices.

The addition of Touch ID/fingerprint support seems to be of great help if you’re looking for a way to secure your messages on the app. On top of that, WhatsApp is reportedly also working on a feature to let you pin a message on top and add a username to hide your phone number.

Separately, WABetaInfo has also discovered a new Advanced GIF Search feature in beta version 2.18.93. However, the feature has been disabled as of now, and is likely to be rolled out in the next releases. The new feature will allow you to search GIFs through categories such as Trending, LOL, Love, Sad, Happy, and Dancing.

Late last month, WhatsApp beta version for Android also received the long-awaited QR payments feature. In beta version 2.18.93, users are now able to see the QR code based payment feature. However, feature is available to only the beta testers as of now.
