WhatApp has become an integral part of our lives. And increasingly, users prefer placing a call over WhatsApp to a conversational cellular call. Until now, if you ever wanted to switch from voice to video, you needed to disconnect the ongoing call and dial-up afresh. WhatsApp has heard you and finally introduced a useful feature to help you go from voice to video with a simple tap.
Available through the Google Play Beta Program, version 2.18.4 of WhatsApp enables the video call switch button and lets you instantly move from voice call to a video call.
The update is currently available only for Android users. This is how it will work when rolled out commercially.
If you are already in a voice call, a camera icon shows up which when pressed will send a request to the recipient, asking if she wants to ‘convert’ the ongoing voice call into a video call. The recipient has the option to allow or cancel the request and continue with the voice call.
As WABetaInfo reports, the feature will evidently support only those with compatible versions of the app. Additionally, the feature is unlikely to work in group voice calls. It is to be understood that the group calling feature is yet to go live, but when it does, the quick convert feature will not be supported.
