How many times have you found it annoying to send a voice note on WhatsApp because it requires you to keep the record button pressed until you are finished saying your thing? WhatsApp is now looking at fixing this issue with a new feature that will lock the record button.

WABetainfo discovered the new feature which is currently being only experimented with by the company. It is expected to be rolled out in the upcoming updates to the app. Here’s how the locked voice recording feature will work.

At present, if you want to record a voice message, you have to tap and hold the microphone button till you finish recording the message. With the new feature, you will be shown an option with a lock icon. The feature will be enabled after 0.5 seconds of recording. All you have to do is slide the lock icon up to enable the feature. Once enabled, you will be able to record longer messages without the need to keep pressing the record button.

It is to be noted that with the locked voice recording, you will be able to navigate in the chat, however, it will not be able to view a photo or video while you are recording in locked mode. Additionally, you can not even type a new message while the ‘locked’ voice recording is in progress. In order to type, you will have to first finish recording in locked mode.

While recording a voice message in locked mode, it is also not possible to turn to another chat. In some instances, switching to a different chat deletes the currently in-progress voice recording. As the report notes, there are other limitations as well, but they appear more like bugs which will be possibly fixed before the larger roll out.

According to TelecomTalk, in addition to the locked voice recording feature, WhatsApp is also testing preview recordings feature. With this feature, it will be possible for you to review what you have recorded before sending it to the recipient. This feature is expected to soon make it to the public beta version of the app, with a wider rollout saved for later.

As part of improving user experience on its platform, WhatsApp is time and again introducing newer features and adding capabilities. In the latest addition, WhatsApp increased the time limit for deleting sent messages. Android users can now delete a sent message within 4,096 seconds (over 68 minutes). This is a significant increase from the 420 second-limit(or 7 minutes) which was applicable since the feature rolled out to users.
