WhatsApp has started to rollout the version is 2.18.12 beta program for Android, and it is a significant one. The update will reportedly bring new features such as support for Stickers, mention notifications, security notifications, and demote feature for admins. Here’s more about it. According to Wabetainfo, WhatsApp is making some important changes to the app, which it is currently testing in beta with a limited set of users.
As per the beta, WhatsApp plans to rollout supported Facebook sticker pack on WhatsApp for Android. Wabetainfo says the sticker is Unchi and Rollie, which is already implemented in Facebook and Messenger. This means, along with emoticons, you will now have a separate tab for stickers, how we see it on the Messenger. We are assuming while some stickers would be loaded by default on the app, some would need to be downloaded.
In the same beta, WhatsApp is also believed to be working on a new feature called mentions notification, which essentially will notify you every time you are tagged or mentioned in a group. And when you tap on those notifications, it will directly take you in the conversation where you were tagged.
Then you have security notifications, in which, if you open the Verify security code section and the ‘security notifications’ option is disabled, WhatsApp will ask you if you want to enable it. This is recommended.
Finally, WhatsApp for Android will also soon allow group members to demote the admin of that group. Till now, only an Admin can elect another Admin of the group, or step back from that position. With this update, other members of the group will also have that power.
