Facebook-owned WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app on Android, iOS and Windows Phone OS, has constantly being updated with new features. Recently, the company added the ability to add Group Description in its beta version of the app. Now, the feature has been rolling out to stable version of the Android app.
The Group Description feature allows you to add a description of up to 500 characters to the group. The ability of adding a description is not just limited to admins of the group, but the members can add one too. Once the description is added or changed, members get a notification about the same.
The feature can come in handy when you use the chat invite link to ask people to join the group. So, when a person receives the link to join the group, he or she can read the description before joining the group. The group description is visible right above the ‘Join Group’ button.
Along with Group Description, the update also scores another important feature that allows users to search for members in any group. One can do this by tapping on the search icon that is present on the top of Group Info screen.
Besides these, Android users can also effortlessly switch between voice and video calls by simply tapping the new video icon button, without having to disconnect the call. These new features are made available as a part of WhatsApp’s new update for Android. If you don’t see these features, you can go on the Play Store and update the app, or register yourself for Beta version and update it right away.
In recent times, WhatsApp has also added UPI based cashless payments option that allows you to send and receive money from other WhatsApp users. The latest app version also extends the time of ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature to 4,096 seconds, which is about 68 minutes and 16 seconds.
