After Alcatel One Touch launched the Idol X+ smartphone with an octa-core chipset earlier today, Wickedleak has launched a new phone dubbed Wammy Neo in India. The device boasts a 720p display and is powered by an octa-core chipset. It is also aggressively priced at Rs 11,990. The company has also announced another variant of the phone, which comes with its AquaProtect Technology to make it water resistant.
The Wickedleak Wammy Neo comes with a 5-inch 720p display with Dragon Trail glass on top of it. It is powered by a 1.7GHz MediaTek 6592 octa-core chipset with Mali 450, coupled with a 2GB of RAM. Also included is 8GB of internal storage, expandable up to 64GB by using a microSD card. On the photography front, the phone has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper.
Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS/AGPS. The phone runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which the company says would be upgradeable to the 4.4 KitKat version.
With these specs the phone will be up against the likes of Alcatel One Touch Idol X+, Micromax Canvas Knight A350, Intex Aqua octa, and Panasonic P81 among others. However, all these phones cost much more than the Wammy Neo.
In terms of specifications, the Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ flaunts a 5-inch full HD (1080×1920 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2. It is powered by a 2GHz MediaTek MT6592 octa-core chipset with Mali-450MP4 GPU and 2GB of RAM. In terms of storage space, it has 16GB of internal memory but lacks an external memory support over microSD card. The phone sports a 13.1-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. The phone is priced at Rs 16,999.
Micromax’s Canvas Knight A350 comes with a 5-inch full HD 1080p display, and is powered by a 2GHz MediaTek MTK6592 octa-core chipset with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. This phone too lacks a microSD card slot. In terms of photography, Micromax’s device comes with a higher resolution 16-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The Canvas Knight A350 is priced at Rs 19,999.
The Intex Aqua Octa comes with a huge 6-inch HD 720p display with one glass solution. It runs on a 1.7GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM. Also, Intex’s phone comes with 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded further by using a microSD card. On the photography front, it sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The phone is priced at Rs 19,999, but can be purchased at a discounted price online.
The Panasonic P81, on the other hand, features a 5.5-inch HD 720p display and is powered by a 1.7GHz MediaTek true octa-core chipset coupled with a lower 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. On the software front, it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box and is upgradeable to 4.4 KitKat, though the company hasn’t given any timeline of when the update will come. The phone is priced at Rs 18,990.
