Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore today showed off a few new features in Windows Phone 8 while saving the best for “a later date”. Finally, Windows Phone users will be able to take screenshots by pressing the power and home button combination. The bigger feature, however, is a lens application that will enable third-party developers to build apps for the camera.

The lens app, which gets a dedicated icon in the camera’s menu options, not only gives the option to put effects on photographs but also have apps that involve the camera to be accessed directly from the camera. Belfiore showed off some apps that Microsoft developed on its own as well as few third party apps like Photosynth. CNN is also developing an iReporter lens for Windows Phone 8.
