When Microsoft launched Windows 8 in October, the Windows Store was a desolate island in terms of both quality and quantity. It appears that Microsoft is at least improving the app ecosystem on the Windows Store and that too at a very fast pace. According to the MetroStore, the Windows Store now has 35,167 and 415 apps are being added to the store everyday.
In comparison, On October 30, the Windows Store crossed the 10,000 apps and in November the store was adding 362 apps per day. At this rate, the Windows store is on target to hit the 50,000 mark on February 1st, but it could happen faster if the momentum behind the platform increases.
Of course, we still believe the quality of apps on the Windows Store is slightly dodgy and the ecosystem is nowhere as robust as Apple’s or Google’s. That said, considering Windows is the most widely used desktop OS in the world, that should change pretty fast. More importantly, this will be a boon to ARM based Windows RT devices that are highly dependent on ‘Metro Style’ apps.
