The Mi A1 was among the best Xiaomi smartphones to launch in India. A big reason for that is that it was a part of Google’s Android One initiative, and ran stock OS. While a Mi A1 successor has been widely reported, a new leak hints at another Xiaomi Android One smartphone being in the pipeline.

The folks at XDA Developers have spotted two unannounced Xiaomi smartphones in firmware files. One of these devices is expected to a rebranded Mi 6X, while the other device is expected to an affordable Android One device. These two devices are codenamed “jasmine_sprout” and “daisy_sprout”.

What’s worth noting is that the word ‘sprout’ is associated with Google’s Android One initiative. To recall, the Mi A1 was codenamed ‘tissot_sprout’. Per the firmware files, the jasmine_sprout is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 SoC, and is likely to be the rebranded version of the Mi 6X.

Like last year, the Mi 6X could launch in India as the Xiaomi Mi A2. The Mi 6X was launched featuring a 5.99-inch full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio, Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC under the hood, and the option to choose from three variants. The base variant comes with 64GB storage and 4GB RAM, the mid-variant comes with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM, and the top variant comes with 128GB storage and 6GB RAM. The rest of the smartphone’s specifications include dual-camera setup (20-megapixel+12-megapixel) at the back, 20-megapixel front camera, a fingerprint sensor, and a 3,010mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0.

The other device, codenamed daisy_sprout, is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. Recently, the Redmi S2 cleared China’s 3C certification. It features a design similar to the Mi 6X and is powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC, as per TENAA listing. This could be a hint that it is the second Android One smartphone that we could be looking at. It also falls in line with what CEO Lei Jun had said about Xiaomi’s future plans for the Android One initiative. Jun revealed that there were more Xiaomi Android One smartphones in the pipeline, including ones that will be from the affordable Redmi series.
