Xiaomi Mi A2 is set to launch in India today. This is the second smartphone from Xiaomi that will be running on Android One platform. The Mi A2 was launched in Europe last month and the company is bringing it to India, its key market after China. According to an Amazon listing spotted earlier today, the device is expected to be priced around Rs 17,499.
The Xiaomi Mi A2 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, running alongside 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It comes with a 5.99-inch full-HD+ screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio screen and a dual-camera setup at the back, featuring AI capabilities. It will be running stock Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-box. Xiaomi had a really patchy record with updates on the Mi A1 and with Mi A2, it will have to deliver on the promise of timely and stable software updates.
Early this week, Google made Android 9 Pie official and the operating system has already been pushed out to non-Pixel smartphone like the Essential Phone. At India launch event, the key question would be whether Xiaomi will offer timeline for Android P update. The company will be live streaming the entire event online.
