Xiaomi has confirmed that it will launch its next flagship smartphone, the Mi 8, at an event in Shenzhen, on May 31. The Mi 8 launch marks the 8th anniversary of the company and is expected to be the biggest launch event yet from the Chinese upstart. However, the Mi 8 will not be the only major attraction at the event.
The Mi 8 is not expected to be the only major announcement. The leaks so far indicate Xiaomi will also launch the Mi Max 3, Mi Band 3 and MIUI 10 at the event. Now, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has also officially confirmed that the Mi Band 3 will arrive on May 31. The confirmation via his official handle on Weibo, China’s social media platform.
Jun was recently spotted wearing the Mi Band 3. He was also spotted with the band at the launch of BlackShark gaming smartphone last month. He also confirmed that the third-generation wearable from Xiaomi has been in testing for the past two or three months.

The Mi Band 3 is expected to feature a large, full-touch 2.5D curved display and get rid of the physical button. In order to view your steps, heart rate or time, the Mi Band 3 users will need to slide the screen up and down as opposed to pressing the button on existing Mi Band 2. The third-generation Mi Band will arrive almost two years after the release of Mi Band 2 and could be its most important wearable.
According to Canalys, the wearables market was up 35 percent in the first quarter of 2018. Xiaomi took joint lead with Apple by shipping 3.7 million Mi Band models in the first quarter. Both the companies accounted for 18 percent market share each during the quarter ending March 31, 2018. With the launch set for May 31, Xiaomi Mi Band 3 get huge demand from new customers and from those sticking with the second generation Mi Band.

At the event, Xiaomi is also expected to launch the Mi Router 4 and several other accessories. The launch event is just three days away and Xiaomi is building the hype for its biggest product announcement yet. The launch will precede the upcoming $100 billion IPO from the company.
