Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 received official support for TWRP last week and it has now received its first official build of LineageOS 15.1. According to XDA Developers, a lot of people are already using the build and the publication recommends factory resetting the device especially if you’re coming from another custom ROM to install LineageOS 15.1 on the Mi MIX 2.
Those who have installed the LineageOS 15.1 on the Mi MIX 2 report getting a “Google services framework has stopped” error when switching from another custom ROM. The problem could be based on a conflict with the encryption method and only legitimate way to mitigate the issue is to use an advanced wipe, install the ROM, reboot the recovery and then do another advanced wipe before you can actually get started with the Lineage OS 15.1 on the Mi MIX 2.
The first build of the LineageOS for the Mi MIX 2 can be downloaded from the website and there is also an option to download your preferred variant of OpenGapps package for the smartphone.
To recall, the Mi MIX 2 was released last year as the successor to the first generation Mi MIX smartphone. The Mi MIX line made bezel-less design mainstream among smartphone makers. It features a 5.99-inch display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC.
The smartphone comes with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. There is a primary 12-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, optical image stabilization and dual-LED flash. The front is home to a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording.

It runs MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat and is backed by a 3,400mAh battery. Xiaomi’s MIUI9 is not a bad fork of Android but it often fails to deliver latest update. The LineageOS makes sense for those who don’t like Xiaomi’s forked version and would like to switch to a near stock Android experience.
