Xiaomi is hosting an event in China today, where it will be taking the wraps off the successor to the Mi MIX 2. Courtesy of various leaks and teasers by Xiaomi executives, we already have a fair idea on what to expect from the upcoming smartphone. With just a few hours to the event, here’s a look at everything we know about the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s.
Before we dive into a roundup of everything we know, let’s quickly take a look at how to watch today’s event live online. As is the norm, Xiaomi’s event in Shanghai will be kicking off at 2:00PM local time, which is 11:30AM IST. The event will be live streamed on Xiaomi’s Facebook page, as well as a dedicated page on Xiaomi’s China website.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s design
In the run up to the event tomorrow, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s has been spotted online a couple of times on promo images and video. All the sightings confirm one thing, the Mi MIX 2s won’t look much different from last year’s Mi MIX 2. The rumors about a selfie-notch at the top-right corner will in all likelihood remain a rumor.
The Mi MIX 2s is expected to flaunt a 5.99-inch display with full HD+ (2160×1080 pixels) resolution, and 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is likely to boast a slightly greater screen-to-body ratio, and retain the bezel-less design with slim bezels at the top and bottom. The bezels will no doubt hold the selfie-camera, earpiece, and sensors.
At the back though there are likely to be a few changes. For one, Xiaomi this time is likely to adopt a dual-camera setup. The camera module is seen sitting at the top-left corner, and the company has teased its AI capabilities. The camera is said to be able to switch between different scene settings, and also able to capture 4K videos at 60fps, and slow-motion videos at 480fps. Xiaomi is also expected to employ Sony’s new IMX363 image sensor.
Below the camera module is said to be circular fingerprint sensor. Recent leaks have all but put to rest claims about an under-display fingerprint sensor on the Mi MIX 2s.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s expected specifications, features
Xiaomi kicked off with its series of teasers by confirming that the upcoming Mi MIX 2s will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 SoC. The company even went to the extent of revealing the AnTuTu benchmark score of the smartphone, which is 273,741. With at least 6GB of RAM under the hood, the Mi MIX 2s will be quite the performer.
There will be 128GB internal storage as standard. Some reports however claim that there could be top-of-the-line variant boasting 8GB of RAM, and 256GB internal storage. Making sure everything ticks will be a 3,400mAh battery, and Xiaomi has already confirmed the presence of wireless charging capabilities.
On the software front, the Mi MIX 2s is likely to run MIUI 9-based on Android Oreo. In addition to the fingerprint sensor, the smartphone is also likely to feature a face unlock feature.
To put these specifications into perspective, let’s take a quick look at last year’s Mi MIX 2. The smartphone was launched with a 5.99-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. It also featured a 12-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, and a 3,400mAh battery.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s expected price
While we await Xiaomi’s official announcement, recent reports have revealed an expected price. The Mi MIX 2s could be priced around RMB 4,000 (approximately Rs 40,000).
It would be interesting to see if Xiaomi sticks to the same price tag when it launches the smartphone in India. In comparison, the Mi MIX 2 was launched last year with a price tag of Rs 35,999, and is currently available for Rs 32,999.
