Even as Xiaomi is aggressively expanding its television segment, all eyes continue to be set on its next flagship smartphone offering – the Mi MIX 2s. The next-in-line bezel-less smartphone has been subject to leaks in the past. However, the newest addition to the list of leaks hints at a repositioned camera.
The leak, sourced from Weibo, shows the main camera located at the top-left corner of the rear panel, GSMArena reports. The positioning is reminiscent of the Apple iPhone X, which also features a dual-camera module at the back. In contrast, previous leaks of the Mi MIX 2s suggested that the rear camera will be positioned in the center.
Xiaomi has announced that it will be launching the Mi MIX 2s at a dedicated event on March 27, 2018. Ahead of the release, the company has also been teasing the device by revealing its AnTuTu scores and chipset. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s will add to the first batch of Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC smartphones and is expected to be paired with a whopping 8GB of RAM. In comparison, the newly released Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ feature 6GB of RAM with the same chipset.
In terms of other specifications, the Mi MIX 2s is rumored to pack a 6.01-inch full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. This time around, it is expected the bezels will be even narrower than before. For optics, the smartphone is likely to be equipped with a Sony IMX363 image sensor for the dual-camera setup at the back. Based on past rumors, the Mi MIX 2s could pack 256GB default storage. As for the dual-camera setup, it is expected that there will be a pair of 12-megapixel cameras with one featuring 2X optical zoom lens.
In addition to this, what also draws attention to the Mi MIX 2s release is the possible use of the under-display fingerprint sensor, demonstrated first by Vivo. However, given the technology is still in its nascent stage, it may not actually show up on the upcoming Xiaomi phone.
Another iPhone X-like feature, which was seen in previous leaks is the presence of the top ‘notch’ on the front. As there have been contrasting leaks around this, it is difficult to ascertain if there will be a cutout on the front or not. The phone is also expected to include some type of facial recognition technology for biometric authentication, which will be in addition to the fingerprint sensor. Past leaks claim that the Mi MIX 2s will cost around RMB 4,000 (approximately Rs 40,000) when launched.
