With a fresh week starting today, the day turned out to be quite eventful. The day kicked off with Apple hiking the India prices of its iPhones and Watches. The rest of the day saw Nokia smartphones leak, and Xiaomi announcing an India launch event on February 14. Let’s take a look at the stories in detail.
Apple iPhone, Watch price hike
Apple today announced marginal price hike in its range of iPhones and Apple Watch models. The price hike comes after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley raised customs duty on electronic devices during the Union Budget 2018. Apple announced a price increase for its Watches, as well as smartphones like the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 7, as well iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, will see a price increase. Not surprising was that prices of the iPhone SE remained unchanged.
Airtel revised plan
Bharti Airtel yet again revised its myPlan Infinity postpaid plans. Airtel’s Rs 399 postpaid plan now offers 20GB of data, and unlimited roaming outgoing calls too. Airtel is also providing 40GB of data per billing cycle with the Rs 499 plan; the Rs 799 tariff plan now gives 60GB of data, and the Rs 1,199 postpaid plan now offers 90GB data.
Xiaomi Invite for Redmi 5
Xiaomi sent out media invites for the launch of the company’s first product in India for 2018. The invite reveals a big ‘5’ hinting that the company will launch a new budget smartphone, expected to be the Redmi 5. The event is scheduled to take place on February 14. There are speculations around what Xiaomi is set to launch. If reports are to be believed, Xiaomi could launch the Redmi 5 smartphone.
Nokia 7 Plus leak
A new leak revealed the features, and specifications of an upcoming smartphone, dubbed Nokia 7 Plus. The smartphone is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. In terms of display, the smartphone will feature a 6-inch screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio. On the camera front, there is a dual camera setup with a 12-megapixel and 13-megapixel sensors, capable of 2x zoom. The front camera gets a 16-megapixel “Tetracell” sensor.
Native call recording support on Android P
Android P’s developer preview is just around the corner. The latest leak indicates that it may feature native support for call recording. Details about the new Android version are likely to emerge at I/O 2018. It is expected that the built-in Android P call recording feature will work with recording apps after getting the required permissions. It is, however, not clear if Google will open the feature for app developers via APIs.
Nokia 8 Sirocco details leaked
Nokia 8 Sirocco variant has been trademarked by HMD Global recently. Expected to launch at MWC 2018 later this month, the latest leak has revealed that the smartphone might be powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM. The upcoming Nokia 8 variant is said to be a tribute to the old Nokia 8800 Sirocco.
